Scope
Kitchen design, lacquered cabinetry, stone specification, steel windows, appliance curation
A new-build home designed around a dramatic view of Arthur's Seat demanded a kitchen that held its ground. Charcoal lacquered cabinets, quartzite in a near-black colourway, and Crittall-profile internal windows that frame the garden like a painting. The room is resolved and direct — the kind of kitchen that does not need to be told it is beautiful.
Lacquer was hand-applied in twelve coats, sanded between each pass to achieve a depth of finish the client described as 'like looking into something'. The quartzite island is a solid 80mm slab — structural, not decorative. Cooking appliances are professional grade, chosen for their performance first and their appearance second.
